This petition makes it clear corporations are not people, do not have the rights of people, and have limited rights to influence elections. I encourage you to sign.

One wise guy said "I'll believe corporations are persons when Texas executes one."

A great thing about Google news is that I can customize it to get some articles in Russian. There's a recent story about Putin being nominated for the Chinese "Confucius Peace Prize". Funny, no western newspapers have picked up on it.

There is so much talk about government spending. Let's at least get the basics straight. Health = Medicare and Medicaid. Pensions = Social Security. Welfare is a bit tricky: half of it is unemployment insurance, which is employee-funded.

It will take quite a few individual supporters to counter the $1,013,091 that Goldman Sachs gave to Obama.

It is dispiriting to be afraid to write something down for the same reasons that a Soviet citizen would be afraid to write something down.

What are those OWS people so angry about?
...growing wealth and income inequality, by itself, would not spark massive protests if there were a perception that the top 1% (more accurately thought of as the top .1%) had acquired their gains honestly and legitimately. ... What makes this inequality so infuriating (aside from the human suffering it is generating) is precisely that it is illegitimate: it is caused and bolstered by decisively unfair application of laws and rules, by undemocratic control of the political process by the nation’s oligarchs, and by a full-scale shield of immunity that allows them — and only them — to engage in the most egregious corruption and even criminality without any consequence

Some charts that illustrate the inequality are at
http://www.businessinsider.com/what-wall-street-protesters-are-so-angry-about-2011-10?op=1 There's some fast-and-loose treatment, both of statistics and display, but it's still pretty eloquent.

The most cogent description I have read of the GOP's assault on democratic institutions.
