'The Pietà' a masterpiece by Michelangelo which depicts Mary cradling the dead body of her son, Jesus. First century AD crucifixion was not uncommon. Life was hard, especially for women, children and slaves. People were superstitious and there was no such thing as vaccines. People frequently ingested toxic things they thought were beneficial. In general, 1 in 4 children died in infancy. Half died before age 10. Rare was the mother who did not know what it's like to outlive one, or more, of her children.

Have you found your myth yet? Do you want to sell a New Age product and/or service and are tired of coming up with meaningless copy for your starry-eyed customers? If you too, want to join the ranks of bestselling self-help authors, it's easy. Just click the Reionize Electrons button at the top of the page to generate a full page of professional profound sounding New Age bullshit. It really is that easy. (paraphrased)

That sounds exactly like the nonsensical words that come out of Deepak Chopra's mouth.

UPI Headline: "Obama hosts Easter Prayer Breakfast, chooses openly gay bishop to lead prayer"

On the one hand it's cool Obama picked an openly gay bishop to lead a prayer at the White House. On the other hand, when will we see a president with balls big enough to actually practice separation of church and state and stop doing religious ceremonies at the White House? We'll see a woman president in the White House long before an openly untheist president. Don't count on that untheist president being Hillary. HC may look moderate to liberal politically. But when it comes to religion she appears to share a number of attitudes with more conservative Christians. She's not progressive when it comes to religion... which might be a tipping point in her favor, if she runs.

I do so enjoy the blank stare I get when I mention that to biblical literalists. :)

"All the martyrs in the history of the world are not sufficient to establish the correctness of an opinion. Martyrdom, as a rule, establishes the sincerity of the martyr, — never the correctness of his thought. Things are true or false in themselves. Truth cannot be affected by opinions; it cannot be changed, established, or affected by martyrdom. An error cannot be believed sincerely enough to make it a truth." -Robert G. Ingersoll

Excellent quote from "The Great Agnostic." And so true. After all, Ted Bundy was executed, just like Jesus was. But that doesn't mean that kidnapping, raping, torturing and eventually murdering young women represents some sort of "moral truth" that the rest of us seem blind to.

Legislation that would make the Holy Bible the official state book of Louisiana cleared the House Committee on Municipal, Parochial and Cultural Affairs with a vote of 8-5 Thursday afternoon. It will now head to the full House of Representatives...

This confirms my suspicions, they have introduced reading in the great state of Louisiana.

Might surprise some Christians but it did not surprise me...
"In a recent study conducted by ChristianMingle.com, Christian singles between the ages of 18 to 59 were asked, “Would you have sex before marriage?” The response? Sixty-three percent of the single Christian respondents indicated yes. In my 30 years of youth and adult ministry experience, this is as unfiltered, direct and honest as a question and answer can be.It is equally honest to say that nearly nine out of 10 self-proclaimed single Christians are, in practice, sexual atheists. In other words, God has nothing to say to them on that subject of any consequence or, at least, anything meaningful enough to dissuade them from following their own course of conduct. It is the ultimate oxymoron."

+Ron Flannery thank you very much. I need to hear that because I often feel so embarrassed and stupid for taking so long to see the truth. The embarrassment that I supported it for so long is something I hope everyone who leaves religion has to go through. Otherwise I'm all alone! Lol
