The Dispute Resolution Center was founded in 1983 with seed money provided by the Austin Young Lawyers Association, pursuant to legislation enacted that year (Texas Civil Practices & Remedies Code 154.052). This statute allows DRC’s to be organized in all of the larger population centers in Texas. It specifies the minimum education requirements for mediators, allows a surcharge on civil suit filing fees and creates the ADR Fund as a revenue source for these DRC’s.

Exciting Austin, TX DRC News!

The Travis County Justice of the Peace, Precinct Two, partnering with Tyler Technologies, is launching a pilot program for Online Dispute Resolution. The program will be offered as an option to self-represented litigants filing small claims cases seeking only monetary resolution. If the disputing parties are unable to settle the dispute between themselves, they will then move on to the mediation phase. The DRC will play a key role in this pilot program designed to increase access to justice, faster resolutions, and help the court serve our growing community.
