A coastie, especially from California, may not find it to be the best; coasties think everything is better on the coast, and maybe it is (my wife just got back from LA and we definitely loved all the cheapo fish places like Reel Inn and Santa Monica Seafood). But Aqua Reef is a good as it gets here in the middle of the desert far from the ocean, a place where Red Lobster is the high end restaurant for seafood. Many of the roll recipes are quite original and unique. Obviously this is not like eating dim sum in Chinatown in SF. But the portions at Aqua Reef are just right; if you need to go eat somewhere else after you leave Aqua Reef, you probably need to be on a diet and are on dialysis for your failing kidneys (Dim Sum is a Hong Kong specialty; perhaps Tatsu shouldn't make it; and if you want all you can eat Chinese sushi, try the Empire buffet at the nearby mall). Aqua Reef's prices are good, especially on Wednesday, when it's four rolls for $38.98 (my wife and I can't actually eat four rolls; we have to take some home, but then again, neither of us is on dialysis due to obesity). Congrats to Tatsu on being chosen as Richard Branson's chef for Virgin space flights. I would send my friends here. But then again, I'm not the kind of person who would send anyone to a bad restaurant, even an enemy. Why would I?

This place is crap for sushi. The portions were extremely small. I had to go eat somewhere else after I left there. The oysters omg I never knew oysters came so small and for the price it was ridiculous. There definitely is not a Japanese person in the back making this stuff. Huge disappointment. I'll refer this place to someone I don't like.

Being from the Northwest and traveling extensively, I have eaten a lot of sushi. Intrigued to try the local fare and eat at restaurant that offered sushi, I ordered many speciality rolls and a few of my favorite nigiri items. The sushi rice was poorly made, perhaps made many days before and refridgerated and the fish did not taste fresh either. Although the combinations of green chili and spicy sauces were original the complete lack of fresh rice and fish made the rolls inedible.

I recently visited for lunch, yes that's right lunch and was surprised at the great value of their 5.98 lunch special. They open at11:30-2:00 and it was awesome! The chef prepared a coconut curried chicken rice bowl with veggies and it was simply great. I also heard that they are going to start a Sunday brunch, and if you are looking for the perfect place for that special person to take out for Valentine's Day Aqua Reef is the place to go. Check out their impressive menu online, facebook or twitter.

Sushi is one of the joys of our lives. We celebrated my husbands 70th birthday at Aqua Reef, and found the staff well informed and very friendly. We both ate our favorite: Chiraschi, and found the amount of fish fresh and varied. The rice tasted very good. We were also pleased by the peti creme brules for dessert. We will stop in at this restaurant whenever we pass through Las Cruses. Very creative and well done.

If you're looking for Dim Sum, this isn't it. Potstickers and eggrolls do not dim sum make (nor were they even that good). Can't attest to the rest other than it seemed overpriced at that

Whether you have never had sushi or you are a big time sushi fan this place is amazing. I have been here many times before and always walked away more satisfied than the last time I went. Everything here is super fresh and amazingly presented. I only have one complaint about this place and that is the size. Very small. It is nice if you can get in without that many people, but during a dinner rush its too crowded.

If you want everything but sushi, I highly recommend this place. Their Bento boxes, appetizers, etc are to die for. But if you actually want sushi, I do not recommend Aqua Reef. Their fish is too fishy, their seaweed paper tastes like they went right out to the ocean to pick it up, and it was, overall, a huge disappointment. They only had two Nigiri sushi worth buying, and I wouldn't recommend any of the rolls. Not just because they're way overpriced, but they leave a LOT to be desired. The waitstaff is delightful and very attentive, the restaurant is cute, I love the aqua bar, I was just extremely let down by the actual sushi. I'd go back, but only for the sides and dinners.
