My friend Alan Mead and I were at it again. He interviewed me recently for his new podcast (The Alan Mead Experience). We covered everything from my first hand experience with Marijuana in Colorado to our mutual recoveries from addiction to organized dentistry and patient care. It is really entertaining and fun - probably the best interview I've ever participated in. Please give it a listen and share your thoughts with Alan and I!

It's a go! Full speed ahead! 5280 High School is slated to start for the 2018-2019 school year. It's educational philosophy will be project based learning. It is also the first public high school that openly supports kids in recovery from substance abuse and other process disorders. It will hold its students to the highest academic standards to create a future of endless possibilities. Congratulations to our board and especially Melissa Mouton - the head of our new school!

If I die tomorrow
I'd be all right
Because I believe
That after we're gone
The spirit carries on

My mom passed away last night peacefully with her four kids at her side. It has been a tough road for her these last several years. Although I'm sad that she is gone, I'm extremely grateful to have had her as a mom. If you knew my mom, please take a moment today to reflect and wish her well in her journey. Funeral arrangements to follow.

"Every 5 years or so I look back on my life and I have a good laugh.." (Indigo Girls)
I thought that my last birthday in my 40's was good time to reflect. I didn't have to look back very far...
I was awoken by my wife Gina Kessler with a birthday kiss to start the day. My kids played the traditional "Birthday" song from the Beatles- we sang and danced around the breakfast table.
I had a great day celebrating at work with my team at TCDO and with patients that cared enough to mention my increasing age. Family dinner at Elway's - no we didn't celebrate passover, but we had a lamb appetizer...I realized we all are so busy that we don't go out to dinner very often so this was a treat! Dessert at Gary and Dione Smith Benson's for her special chocolate cake and wonderful hospitality.
I got to speak to almost 2,000 dental professionals last weekend in Arizona about substance abuse. Had several recent conversations in person and on the phone with some that were struggling with their own demons - sharing my experience, strength and hope. I can't wait to see my friends in Snowbird this summer for my yearly recharge at IDAA!
Gratefully, I have had a lot of opportunities to see my siblings, and parents lately through our mutual travels. My mom isn't doing too well so I am trying to see her as often as I can. Looking forward to seeing my Chicago people this weekend as I am traveling there Wed through Sunday.
I grateful for the opportunity to consult with the ADA this week to advocate for the profession around dental benefits (or lack thereof) so dentists can better serve their patients and the communities that we serve in. A few weeks, I was consulting on well-being issues in dentistry. Quite a change from 18 years ago, where no one was really asking me for my advice...lol!
I love to play outdoors and I continue to explore the trails near and far seeing God's handiwork around every turn.
I recognize that my life is filled with grace and blessings beyond anything I deserve. I will keep on this path. I feel I am making a difference in the world. My purpose is clear to me.
I want to thank everyone who took the time out to remind me that I matter to you. You matter to me too.

The path at your pace
Every choice is worth your while"
