Love, love, LOVE this place. Easily the best bar in the city. Great beer list, AMAZING food, and knowledgeable staff make this an easy recommendation to anyone looking for a fun time!

This place is great. I have been to a few functions on the second level so i decided to have my bday celebration there. Unfortunately I did not book the second level and there was a private party. I had about 20 - 25 people crammed on the first floor and the wait staff were so accommodating. In particular, a girl named Heather who was a true soldier. She got us a table and we managed to infiltrate sections of the bar. That is just brilliant. Everyone was impressed and I think it's obvious to say we will all be back!!!

Deserves 4.5 stars, in my opinion. Really good server, much better Pittsburgh-style Cheesesteak than I ever had in Pittsburgh, amazing brussel sprouts (trust me), various fresh sardines (the planca worked for us), clean, music not too loud, somewhat hipster but not too much, and what looked like a very nice outdoor area (we were inside in the cold weather). Some stories led us to believe that the chef is very dedicated to repeatable quality. I should have probably given it 5 stars, but I never do that. Nevertheless, highly recommended.

PRAY that you do not get the brunette server that never smiles. Worst service I've ever had at a bar. Maybe if you're one of her yuppie friends she will be more attentive. My girlfriend got a grilled cheese that was so burnt it cut her gums multiple times. Instead of relaying the message to the kitchen - she picked apart the sandwich in front of us, rolled her eyes, and said "whatever looks fine but sorry." She then purposefully took forever to get our check, while closing out everyone around us who all appeared not to be in a rush - as we obviously were. The only saving grace is the unexpected comp. of the lackluster grilled cheese. Beware of the service, but not the beers.

I want to say, this was one fantastic experience. I visited Philadelphia for nine days and after having beer and sandwich at American Sardine, I returned... I had dinner there for a total of four times out of the nine days spent in Philly. I guess that says it all. The food is great and the employees are very friendly. I am from the San Francisco Bay area and only wish I could import American Sardine to The Bay Area. I am so jealous. So, needless to say, when I return to Philadelphia, I WILL return to American Sardine.
