For those of you who may have missed it yesterday, Interstate 4 will be closed in Lakeland this weekend: westbound closed on Saturday, and eastbound closed on Sunday.

So if you're coming to Fantasy of Flight, plan on a little extra travel time. See you soon!

Was the Ford Mustang named after a horse or after the legendary P-51 fighter aircraft?

It was another record crowd this weekend! Thank you to all who are coming out to see us before we close to the public.

Remember, we will be reopening a smaller museum attraction late this year (with a smaller price) so you can still see a few of the aircraft while we are working on the next iteration of Fantasy of Flight. But April 6 will be the last day you can see us "as is" so make your plans!

Don't forget, there are two great opportunities left to see Fantasy of Flight in all it's glory, so mark your calendar:

Thursday, April 3 will be the Sun 'n Fun Splash-In seaplane extravaganza, and then on Saturday, April 5 will be Mustangs & Mustangs showcasing P-51s and Ford Mustangs from all eras. Don't miss either event!

Friday 05FE16. COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME.. I've looked forward to visiting Fantasy of Flight for years. What a let down. Only the "museum" is open with a few replica WW1 aircraft and an unrestored B25. Apparently "The Worlds Largest aircraft Collection" is inaccessible to the public in the banquet hanger. Luckily it was only $10 as a senior but I would not have wasted the time and money if I knew the interesting aircraft were not on display. This should be free admission for wasting people's time. Several other disgruntled guests in the lobby. This "attraction" is a ripoff as currently operated to the public visitors. Kermit, replicas are nice but they are just that,,,,replicas. Who cares? Why is the rest of the collection hidden away for the corporate events and parties? Spend your time driving to the Pennsacola Naval Air Museum if you want to see some airplanes for this collection is seen is a big zero.

Noticed the gate was open so stopped in to check it out. "Bi-plane rides today!" Awesome, ($70 per person, up to 4 people. +fuel or their other plane you can fly! $225 +fuel) interesting. They have a tent set up outside in the grass and a few eager passengers- how cool! Pull up to the front door, open the door to see that it's a souvenir shop, ok. There's a woman at the counter to the left and a hefty man just inside the door between me and said counter. Man: "Do you work here" Me: "No, I was just looking for some...." Man:*cuts me off*"you can't park there" Me: "I was just seeing what the place was about, I have a four year old that's been begging me..." Man:*cuts me off*"it's basically a museum with airplanes in it". (You don't say) Me:"Ok, well thank you" Man:*as I'm closing the door I just opened and never entered* "Yeah, you have to park in the grass".

Our company rented the entire facility in March to host an evening party. What a great experience. I am aviation buff so it was especially interesting to me.

What a gem! My husband, son (3), & I had a blast! The airplanes are amazing. We got to see a P51C Mustang flown by Kremit Weeks. There's an interactive play room for kids, but the adults were having just as much fun. Everything about Fantasy of Flight is so uplifting; really encouraging everyone to follow their dreams! It's a MUST see!

An interesting collection of restored and recreated airplanes. Their collection of Gee Bee racers and other Golden Age racers is especially interesting. I saw presentations from Eddy and Bill; these guys definitely know their stuff and relate it well. The only fly in the ointment was the biplane rides. Three of us signed up for a spin in the 4-passenger New Standard airplane. When we showed up at the appointed time, we were told we would need to wait another hour as an hour-long flight in another plane was booked ahead of us. They only advertise a maximum 1/2 hour ride. They did not page us to tell us of the snafu. Lousy organization, bad customer service. We will not return.

NOTHING! We drove 40 out of our way to seen it. Got there at 10am which is during their open time according to site. Both gates closed with a sign that said Seasonal Opening. What season were they waiting for?
Response from the owner - 7 months ago
Nichelle, we're sorry you went to any trouble. Can you tell us on what site you saw the hours, because our website and Facebook page both indicate our current status and hours. We would love to correct the information you saw if it is within our power to do so. We closed the main facility to the public in April of 2014. We then moved some aircraft across the runway to our former maintenance hangar to open a small interim museum attraction while we work on building the next iteration of the park. The interim museum will be open for the holiday season starting November 14 and is normally open Fri-Sun from 11-3.

I went to Fantasy of Flight a few years ago and found it to be a really great experience. Double so for having a B-26 in the museum, which is a rarity. The B-17 you can walk into is also great. The behind the scenes tour was a lot of fun, it is amazing how many aircraft (and parts) are warehoused and the stories behind that extra stuff. I drove down from The Villages to go see this museum, so if you are in Orlando, it definitely is a must see for even casual aircraft and military history types.

My family (with kids--4 and 8) had about 6 hours before we could check into our hotel and needed to kill some time in Central Florida. Someone suggested that we check out Fantasy of Flight. I was a little skeptical, but gave it a try--and it was great! It is much, much more than just planes--this is a great place for history buffs, gear heads, or anyone who has kids who like big machines. The planes were amazing, but they also they had some really well done exhibits that taught us a lot about American and world history. It was a wonderful alternative to the amusement parks. And, their little restaurant served a pretty decent burger, to boot!
