It seems that for those who fund their college education with state-sponsored money, the word independence is actually two words: in and dependence.

I thought about all that as I read Dr. Joel Elvery’s intriguing article on student loan debt in a recent issue of Forefront, a publication of the Federal Reserve Bank of Cleveland.

The word for the day is preemption. Here's why 40 million #studentloan borrowers need know what that means to them: http://blog.credit.com/2016/05/student-borrowers-are-left-to-fend-for-themselves-despite-the-cfpb-taking-action-144444/

The concept of free #college tuition deserves fairer consideration than it sometimes receives. http://blog.credit.com/2016/04/its-time-we-got-serious-about-solving-the-higher-education-problem-142562/ #studentdebt

Story
Introduction
Entrepreneur. Mitch has owned, operated, bought, sold and turned around businesses. He currently heads his own consulting firm assisting banks, finance companies, small businesses and ventures.

Business Leader. Mitch has been Chairman and CEO of several commercial finance companies, a senior executive at two banks, a member of the Board of Directors of several non-profit organizations.

Teacher. Mitch and a colleague developed popular courses on personal finance and entrepreneurial finance for the University of Hartford. He’s also been teaching these since their fall 2009 and spring 2013 debuts. His lecture style is the same as his writing style— relaxed, conversational, spirited and irreverent. The material in Life Happens and Business Happens are drawn from those lectures and from his extensive industry experience and expertise.

Parent. Mitch and his wife, Ronnie, have helped their two grown children through college and the starting-out pains of their independent lives and careers. He not only survived those challenges, he’s also lived to talk about them and to share his hard-won knowledge with you in Life Happens: A Practical Guide to Personal Finance from College to Career and Business Happens: A Practical Guide on Entrepreneurial Finance for Small Businesses and Professional Practices.
