Life Style in a Meditation Retreat
The meditation is basically the training of mind which is as difficult or easy as training of the body. The practitioners have to work at this tirelessly. It is very peaceful for the most of the people but at times can ignite the repressed feelings of anger, emotions and frustrations. But still it is good for them to get rid of repressed emotions. Meditation retreat works on the following dimensions simultaneously:
• Physical: The practitioners go through some physical transformations as he monitors a different diet plan followed by intense meditations. This way various physical benefits are like these take place.
• Mental: The modern researches have noted various mental/psychological benefits of meditation in last decades. These include lower stress level, decreased anxiety and healed memories of the past. The meditation retreats help in a cognitive restructuring in such a way that subjects can look at the life in more adaptive manner. The minimum period one should spend in meditation retreat for seeing some benefits is two weeks.
• Emotional: The emotional benefits of meditation retreat are immense. The subject going through meditation retreat can see the mal-adaptive nature of his emotional responses and can decrease the intensity of them by further delaying the emotional responses. Only a calm mind can have balanced and harmonious emotional relationships and meditation brings only that.
• Social: A society is as good as the members of it. Meditation is the name of looking inwards and purifying yourself carefully. The society thus created by the good people also becomes more prosperous and growing. This way the subject too gains better confidence and self esteem.
• Spiritual: Finally the spiritual awakening comes. The subject when he gets the success on the above planes then he transcends them i.e. these things become less important for him. Slowly-slowly the spiritual progress is there to see. The higher experience like chakra awakening and kundalini rising become available.
Two weeks is certainly a very short time to achieve all the above benefits but in our personal experience if utilized exclusively for practice with discipline then within two weeks people had tremendous benefits. Many people developed great insights and wisdom and found new ways of life. Some rules are laid down for deriving the utmost benefits for our students. Rules and regulations have been developed keeping this practical aspect in mind. They are based on the practical experience of thousands of meditators over the years and are both scientific and rational.
