Apps on Android Wear

In playing with Android Wear, I'm finding some huge potential for additional apps.  More accurately, for existing apps to integrate more tightly with Wear.  I'll put them in three short groups, based on my expectations.

Where are they?
- Google+: I'm very surprised it has such weak integration with Wear.  Another sign of the fading of Google+, or just something they couldn't pull together in time?
- Google Voice: Not a big surprise, but sad.  Hopefully they get the Hangouts integration done soon.

Soon, please?
- Twitter: I was excited when I got a mention on Twitter and I had the "reply" option on my watch, but it directed me to the phone.  I know there is already one third party app that lets you tweet from the watch ("Bunting"), but official integration would be nice.
- Facebook: Ditto.

Maybe, eventually?
- Foursquare: They made an app for Pebble, so hopefully they do the same for Wear.  It'd be great to check-in from the watch.
- Ingress: Not sure how it'd look/work, but it'd be pretty sweet.
- Slack: This is a tool we use for internal communication at +GreenMellen Media.  Voice integration with it would be excellent.

What apps do you hope to see on Wear in the near future?

I think they rushed this out a bit before some important app support that you mention. Things like G+, Foursquare/Swarm and GV/Hangouts are perfect for this and I'm sure we willse them soon.

The LG G Watch arrived a few hours ago. So far, so good! Full thoughts later, but happy to answer any questions in the meantime.

Just got the greatest email from Network Solutions.  "To ensure that your website is easily found online, it is important that you submit your website to the major search engines and internet directories."

Now we all know the secret to ranking well!

Still trying to get my g+ "story" to play nice, but here's a photo sphere I took inside of the "little grand canyon" (Providence Canyon in south Georgia) a few days ago.  It stitched together very nicely!

As of tomorrow, I'll have a decade of WordPress behind me.  That's crazy!

WordPress will be turning 11 soon, but tomorrow marks the 10th anniversary of when I first tried it out. My original blog post is no longer available, but via the wayback machine I found my first post about WordPress, on May 24, 2004.

More detailed thoughts on the LG G Watch so far...

Yesterday I picked up an LG G Watch, one of the first devices featuring the new “Android Wear” software. It’s a rather plain-looking device, but the software on it is phenomenal.

Active.com is a neat service that a lot of races use for sign ups, but they have a ton of usability issues on it.  The credit card entry screen (seen below) showcases two of them:

1 -- Why ask for the type of credit card?  The initial numbers tell the vendor what kind of card it is.  I'll let this one slide, though, as it can be an extra step to verify accurate information.

2 -- Having the expiration date list "Jan", "Feb", etc is so silly.  I've never seen a credit card show "Aug" on it; they say "08" instead, so the field on the site should match that.  Granted, people should be able to convert "08" to "Aug" in their head, but why introduce new ways for people to screw up making a payment?

One of my pet peeves with ecommerce sites... both issues are more usual than not. Have to wonder if there's a reason beyond unconscious programming.

Wow, that's a big shift.  Rather unfortunate, too.  I enjoy seeing friendly faces in the search results from authors I trust.

We've been doing lots of work to clean up the visual design of our search results, in particular creating a better mobile experience and a more consistent design across devices. As a part of this, we're simplifying the way authorship is shown in mobile and desktop search results, removing the profile photo and circle count. (Our experiments indicate that click-through behavior on this new less-cluttered design is similar to the previous one.)

For more information on using authorship on pages of your website, check out https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1408986

Atlanta area WordPress folks -- come hang out with us at lunch tomorrow and talk plugins!

We’ve talked about our favorite plugins a number of times on the site, and tomorrow (June 12) we’re going to be talking about them at our monthly Meetup.

We’ve changed locations, moving to the Switzer/Central library near the square in Marietta. This location should work better for us, and is completely free to use, so attending the Meetup is now free as well!

While I love Google Maps for in-car navigation, why doesn't it always take me the fastest route?  See the screenshot below; I'm 1hr 32min from home, but it's "36 min faster" if I change my route above (and not take their bizarre out-of-the-way suggestion).  Why is that not my default?

Is there a way to tell Maps "always take me the fastest way, and if my current way isn't the fastest, change it!"?
