Give the gift of education to Karen students. Help Project KARE buy school supplies for our Nov. 1 trip!

As most of you know ... we make annual trips to Mae Ra Moe refugee camp and Karen State in Myanmar to deliver school supplies to support the Karen people on the Thai/Burma border. It's that time again! We leave on Nov. 1st, less than 8 weeks away! We would love to have your help to fill trucks with desperately needed school supplies.

This year our trip is especially exciting because Su Baw, one of our three co-founders, will be joining us. This will be her fist return to Mae Ra Moe refugee camp since she was resettled in Aurora by the UNHCR in 2010. Su Baw and her husband were refugees there from 1995 to 2010. This will also be the first time Su Baw and Lah K'Paw will return 'home' to Karen State in Myanmar since they escaped the Burmese Army more than 21 years ago. Su Baw and Lah K'Paw will be bursting with pride when they return to Karen State with truckloads of school supplies!

We all like to donate to causes that are close to us. Over the last 10 years, more than 2,500 Karen refugees have been resettled in Aurora by the UN Refugee Committee and more than 100,000 have been settled across the USA. The Karen people are an ethnic minority group from Karen State in Burma, severely persecuted by the Burmese Army. When we deliver school supplies on the Thai/Burma border we are helping the families and friends of our Karen American neighbors in our Aurora/Denver community and beyond.

We also like to know our donations are efficient. It doesn't get better than Project KARE! No less than 100% of your donation goes directly to the purchase of school supplies for Karen refugees. We personally pay all of our own expenses - flights, hotel, over land travel. We take your donations to stores and shops in Chiang Mai Thailand and fill pickup trucks with student notebooks, pens, pencils copy paper, printers, and much more. Then ... it's a six hour drive to the refugee camp and a 10 hour trip to the village in Burma.

If you can help us buy school supplies ... that would be outstanding!

You can donate via credit card or PayPal on our crowdfunding page or you can hand deliver cash or a check (made out to Project KARE) to one of our three co-founders directly - Su Baw, Michaely Rosas or Ron Levis.

Project KARE is are an all-volunteer non-profit and are a registered 501c3 so all donations are tax deductible.

With much appreciation -

Your company’s job descriptions are driving women away

Finding great people is a top concern for companies today, startup founders cited hiring as their #1 concern, beating out even revenue and customer growth.

Yet for all the worrying about keeping a high-quality candidate pipeline, many of us are making the same mistake — we’re unwittingly writing job descriptions that turn off a large percentage of our candidate pool.

Indian Technology Workers Worry About a Job Threat: Technology

India’s information technology industry grew at a breakneck speed over the past two decades thanks to the trend commonly called offshoring. The industry and related businesses generate more than $150 billion in annual revenue and employ about four million people to build and test software, to enter and analyze data, and to provide customer support for American and European companies looking for relatively inexpensive labor.

But the global tech industry is increasingly relying on automation, robotics, big data analytics, machine learning and consulting — technologies that threaten to bypass and even replace Indian workers.

Harvard College rescinded admissions offers to at least ten prospective members of the Class of 2021 after the students traded sexually explicit memes and messages that sometimes targeted minority groups in a private Facebook group chat.

In the group, students sent each other memes and other images mocking sexual assault, the Holocaust, and the deaths of children, according to screenshots of the chat obtained by The Crimson. Some of the messages joked that abusing children was sexually arousing, while others had punchlines directed at specific ethnic or racial groups. One called the hypothetical hanging of a Mexican child “piñata time.”

How I Overcame The Guilt Of Quitting A Job Where I Felt Needed

It’s nice to be needed. Like a lot of people, I take great pride in knowing that I’m an integral part of a team, and I’ve worked hard to establish myself as a crucial asset to my employers—past and present. I have a feeling a lot of you approach your careers this way, too.

The only problem with this is, when it comes time to leave your job— whether it’s to pursue a new opportunity, to raise a family, or just to take a break —you end up feeling incredibly guilty. What will your company do without you?
