I first set foot in Spain in January 2001, and visited off and on before becoming a permanent resident in June 2005. [Wow, that’s a decade!] Due to the structure of the human brain, my memories of that time can be easily triggered by smell. Since…

March has seen several major milestones hit by the offspring, pretty much all by Nora, and I’m not even counting her sixth birthday or losing her first tooth, both of which were amazing sources of pride for her. Ian is still plodding along being adorable,…

After we finishes our champagne pumpkin risotto on Sunday, the cloudy sky opened up and it was looking like we’d have a nice sunny afternoon, so we decided to return to the Cueva del Valle park, about a fifteen minute drive from home. Just like last time,…

I’ve lived here by the beautiful estuary, delta, tidal basin and beach that is the triangle of Colindres, Santoña and Laredo for a full decade. Two features dominate the landscape: the long wispy finger of a sandy peninsula that makes up Laredo’s…

Thoughts and photos of an American parent living in northern Spain.
Introduction

My name is Erik Rasmussen. This is a little blog that I keep up to lessen the gap between me and my friends and family in the United States. As such, they are my main audience. Other people are welcome to read and comment as well, though.

Originally from North Carolina, I moved to England in December, 2001, and lived and worked there for three and a half years. I moved to northern Spain in June, 2005, and have quickly adjusted to the lifestyle. In March of 2009, my daughter, Nora, was born.
