Today, Symphoria remembers the life of English composer Ralph Vaughan Williams! He composed over 150 major works during life lifetime, including six operas, five ballets, and nine symphonies. Symphoria Concert Master Peter Rovit performs Vaughan Williams' effortless lyrical work, The Lark Ascending, at our May 12th Masterworks concert! #TodayInMusicHistory, Symphoria celebrates the 100th birthday of the late of American composer, pianist, and conductor, Leonard Bernstein! Born on this date in 1918, Bernstein is considered to be the first American educated conductor to achieve world-wide acclaim. He served as Music Director of the New York Philharmonic and composed nearly 75 major works during his lifetime, including three ballets, three operas, and eight musicals, such as Westside Story and Candide. Bernstein won seven Grammy Awards and the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, as well as the 1953 Tony for Best Musical (Wonderful Town). You won't want to miss hearing his Three Dances from On The Town at our March 24th Masterworks concert! Tickets and season subscriptions are on sale now.
