10 Ways To Use Your HeadShot

First of all, WHY do you need a good headshot? People like to do business with other people - not company branding.

And why a GOOD headshot?

They say a picture is worth 1000 words - and if the picture looks like a snapshot (cheap), done by an amateur, cropped from a bigger picture, lacks focus, has bad lighting (such as bright spots on your nose, or dark circles where your eye sockets are - also know as 'racoon eyes' - or leaves your whole face in shadows) - guess what, that is exactly what the picture 'says' about you.

A well taken professional photo says you care about how you appear to your contacts and customers, that you don't take shortcuts, that you put professionalism into your work, that you're an established and reliable business person.

Now that's out of the way, how can you use your headshot?

1 - LinkedIn (that's pretty obvious, I know) along with other social media.

2 - Business cards - so people have one more way to remember who you are after meeting them, they remember your conversation by seeing your picture.

3 - Profile page on your web site, people start to feel they know you as a person, not just the 'corporate' entity.
4 - Advertising - all of the above reasons. Whether its a bus bench or magazine ad.
5 - Signature on emails. Again, personalizing and humanizing your communications.
6 - CV or Resumé - not so common here in North America, but very common in Europe. If you deal with Europeans, you might want to keep this in mind.
7 - "About the author" on the book you write. Books are a great way to establish your credibility – and with 'publish on demand' services, it doesn't have to cost a fortune to self publish.
9 - Speaking engagement posts in social media and on posters. If you're talking in public, give people one more reason to stop and hear you.
10 - Post cards. Thanking people for their business with a fun, engaging photo of you looking grateful or joyful is a wonderful way to remind people that dealing with you is a great experience.
Of course there are many more ways to use profile photos - I would love to hear about your creative ideas and uses.
