1200 Calories is the minimum need for our body's function (organs).  So, if you start creating a deficit from 1200 calories it can become unhealthy for the overall function of your body, muscle wasting can begin and even organ failure if you do this for to long.  Best to have 1200 calories at least, so if you want to exercise as well take in about 1600 calories and make sure that 30% or less is calories from fat.  You can do that by counting total calories and total calories from fat. Then divide  calories from fat by total calories and this will give you your daily percentage of fat.  This does require reading labels.   For example   a Blueberry muffin can average 390 total calories and 170 calories from fat which gives us 44% fat content in that delicious blueberry muffin.  Not exactly a healthy choice.  But if you balance the rest of the day out, you can bring that fat percentage done.  The short of it is no, anything less than a 1200 calorie a day diet can be hazardous to your health, although not right away.
