Is it time to lower Canada’s legal limit?
Check out this article about how the federal Justice Minister recently floated the idea with her provincial and territorial counterparts about lowering Canada’s legal alcohol limit for drivers from 0.08 to 0.05. While such a move would be controversial, recent studies have shown that a blood-alcohol content level of 0.05 doubles a driver’s risk of a crash. A number of countries, including Ireland, have already lowered their limits to 0.05 and seen drunk driving fatalities fall as a result.

Distracted drivers fuel fatal accident increase
Take a look at this article about how traffic fatalities in Ontario increased in 2016. Preliminary OPP data shows a slight increase in the number of on-road fatalities, with more substantial increases involving off-road vehicles, boats, and pedestrians. The increase is at least partly due to an increase in distracted driving. The OPP says that 2016 will likely have been the first time since 2009 when distracted driving deaths doubled impaired driving deaths.
