Check this out; an awesome initiative set up and I think it is well worth supporting. I might give it a go here in New Zealand! http://www.whoirun4.com/about-ir4/

Hi everyone,

How are you all? Happy it is almost the weekend?

I went to my first disability conference in Australia recently and it was so awesome. I learnt so much about research in the field of disability, and I heard from some amazingly inspiring self-advocates. I got research ideas and learnt about disability fields related to my young carer area that I did not realise were related. It was a great opportunity and I cannot wait to attend another.

Does anyone have any great conferences that they can recommend? Have you ever spoken at a conference as a self-advocate or as a researcher?

I look forward to hearing from you all.

Kind regards,

Lauren :-)

Hi all!

Labour Weekend has come and gone here in New Zealand: A three day weekend seems to just be enough, how do I normally survive the two day weekends?!

I am back at university and getting my conference presentations ready. I am off to Sydney next week for the Australasian Society for Intellectual Disability (ASID) Conference, and then to Perth for the Curtin University 'Rites of Spring' Conference. Are any of you going to these or any other conferences? Any tips you can give me for presenting: They are my first conferences!

Have a great week!

Best,

Lauren

Well hello there!

How are we all? What has everyone been doing recently?

I had my brothers' needs assessment on Friday; it was pretty emotional and challenging but it seems to have started a positive movement for his future so I am happy! I guess it's true that the hardest things often have the best outcomes....nice to see he may have a very bright future in the community :-)

And in my young carers research: I am heavily into my thesis proposal second draft. I did my first lecture at university about young carers and it went well-largely down to it being a wonderful class of university students! And I am preparing conference papers for two Australian conferences where I will present about young carers Exciting but nerve-wracking stuff!

It is getting cooler here in New Zealand and blowing an absolute gale  today-it should be getting warmer now it's Spring shouldn't it?!

Anyway, enough from me. What about you? I would love to hear from you all!

Best wises always,

Lauren

Hi all,

I hope your various research ventures are going well? I wonder what everyone is getting up to in their research/work? I am refining my methodology section of my thesis proposal and getting ready to present at two Australian conferences: Definitely keeping busy! And I received the first draft of my full thesis proposal back from my supervisory team with plenty of feedback: I feel a little like the student in this comic! Have any of you felt this way before? I would love to hear what you are up to?

Anyway I better get back to work!

Best wishes always,

Lauren
