Design of Pile Cap for Concentric Loading
A pile cap have to be supported a 18”X18” column which is subjected to live load=170 kips and dead load=160 kips under service loading. The column is reinforced with longitudinal bars of 12 No. 7 bars. Consider f y =60 Ksi and f’ C =3 Ksi. The diameter of p...
Except superimposed load weight of pile cap also exerts some load on piles. Lets consider cap weight exerts 3 kips load on each pile.

Geosynthetic Vertical Drains for Preloading Foundation Soil
The modern development of vertical drain methods is geosynthetic drains, though sand drains perform well, geosynthetic drains offer some extra advantages. At first we will discuss about basics of geosynthetic drains. Band or strip shaped drains are most pop...
Installation of Geosynthetic drains in soil is rapid and easy, can be stored and transported easily, saves time, required relatively lighter rigs and equipment

Dear Concrete Professional/Technologist/Entrepreneur & Business Friends,

Remember a Green Built Home is also Quality Built Home !!
KALMATRON® KF-ASH GREEN BUILDING COUNCIL'S LEED INDUSTRIAL ASH UTILIZATION TECHNOLOGY "Inventions of the 21-st Century"
Lightweight Foundation Back filling Concrete FlyAsh, KALMATRON® KF-ASH

KF-Ash will work for backfilling of foundations. For drains it is not a suitable additive because it will make the soil waterproof (although not vapor proof so it remains breathable).
Fly Ash can be used to substitute up to 50% of the cement (by weight) in a mix containing Kalmatron® KF-Ash For most new homes built today, backfilling is accomplished with one of two materials. If there is enough compactable dirt on site, your new home will most likely have dirt placed up next to the foundation. This dirt needs to be free of organic materials that will decompose and cause excess settlement. Examples of organic material that will decompose include top soil, tree roots and stumps, scraps of wood,…etc

Methods to Control Deflection of Reinforced Concrete Member
When serviceability is concern, limiting cracks in flexure member is not enough alone, additionally we have to pay attention to apply some controls in flexure deflection of beam. Excessive deflection is not only an esthetic issue but also this creates many ...
Calculation of deflection of reinforced concrete member is very difficult due to uncertainty of material properties, presence of cracking, load history..

Difficulties in Mix Selection for Lightweight Aggregate Concrete
We know there have a relation between water/cement ratio and compressive strength of concrete. This relation is also valid for lightweight aggregate concrete in the identical way as that for normal aggregate concrete. In many cases, usual procedure used for...

What is Drainable Water from Soil Pores?
We know when ground water table reached to surface the soil is said to be saturated up to ground surface. When water table remains at a depth Z 1 the soil above the water table is not saturated and below this depth soil is fully saturated i.e. saturation is...
Drainable water from soil pore can be defined by several terms like specific yield, specific retention, specific storage, storage coefficient etc.

Impact of Preloading on Secondary Consolidation of Soil
In preloading process, we apply a certain weight of surcharge on soil to consolidate and dissipated water comes out to surface which offers a foundation soil of less susceptible to settlement. In preloading, we can also allow horizontal discharge of water b...

Reduction of Workability of Fresh Concrete with Time
We know fresh concrete becomes stiff with time. But it should keep in mind that stiffening and setting of cement are not same term. We have already discussed about stiffening rate of concrete . Workability depends on many factors like aggregate size, shape ...
A higher workability of concrete mix results greater loss of slump.
