I just looked at the nearly final returns, and compared with the predictions in http://fivethirtyeight.blogs.nytimes.com/ that were updated as of this morning.

It looks to me like Nate Silver correctly predicted every single state.  Including Florida.  In the morning I'll check how closely he nailed the popular vote.  Right now Romney is ahead by a hair, but most of California is not in yet, which will clearly change that.

From an alternate universe, http://www.mercurynews.com/ci_21930284/seven-people-predicting-romney-victory-tomorrow?source=most_viewed can give a lesson in how NOT to interpret polls.

“What will make a difference is for ordinary people to pick up the phone and send an e-mail or a letter to their representatives about this. When you consider the magnitude of how many people use Wikipedia globally, there is a potential here for really creating some noise and getting some attention in the U.S.” -- Jimmy Wales on Wikipedia's decision to go dark on Wednesday.
Wikipedia is the latest Web site to plan a blackout for Wednesday to protest two Congressional bills intended to curtail copyright violations on the Internet.

The web is now a very important part of our lives. But the huge corporations behind the successful effort to scuttle SOPA and PIPA are profiting from the sweat of my brow as a creator and they don't want me to get paid. They don't want to lift a finger to HELP stop intellectual property piracy. It bugs me because if my work is so worthless, why do people value having it so much that they make all this hoopla? Really it just seems that they're OK with creators not getting paid. Ask yourself why popular music is so less vital today than in prior years. It's because of piracy. When label profits went down, so did the divisions at the labels that nurtured and developed talent and also the divisions that released music that wasn't exactly in the commercial pocket -- the more interesting music. Opponents of protection of intellectual property often decry the labels as greedy. True, but that's not the issue. And it's not just artists and songwriters who are suffering from this downturn. Recording engineers, recording studios (and the people who used to work in them), creators of album art and many others who made records and CDs the iconic emblems of the eras in which they were released are increasingly idle. Many, if not most, are going under. My friends and I who existed in that world are now struggling to survive. SOPA and PIPA may have problems. I don't know because I didn't read them. But I suspect all of those out banging the drum to do away with them didn't either. I understand that there were gross misrepresentations made in the opposition movement. As I understand it, they were aimed at stopping FOREIGN websites whose main purpose was the illicit dissemination of copyrighted material. These websites exist on advertising revenue from huge corporations and they're all profiting on my back and the backs of people like me. Somebody, please either explain what I'm missing or else, maybe it'd be a good idea if you re-examined your position on protecting creators against piracy.

Good on +Jenna Wortham for exposing the insular inanity of an ad agency's homeless hotspots at SXSW. Jobs? Yes. Jobs as fixtures -- digital footrests -- for rich cyberistas? Offensive.

I think this is a creative idea that needs some improvements. I think the rude comments from some of the users were the problem.
