Andre Ward vs. Chad Dawson Fight Week - Andre Ward Profile

Andre Ward is an undefeated professional boxer with a record of 25-0 (13 KO's).  He was a Gold Medalist at the 2004 Olympics winning the the Light Heavyweight division.  He is nicknamed S.O.G. (Son of GOD), he is a family man, he doesn't shy away from his faith and exudes a positive Christian attitude.  He is dedicated to his profession, and he takes the time to acknowledge his fans.  Ward, who was nursing a knee injury and attending the Super 6 fight between Andre Dirrell and Arthur Abraham at Joe Louis Arena in 2010, took the time to pose for pictures with fans and media.  He was clearly in pain trying to stand and sit, but he tried to make sure everyone requesting a photo was happy.

In the ring, Andre Ward is a beast.  Early in his career, he was known as a boxer, but his Super 6 performances proved to the boxing world he can fight on the outside and take an opponent's best weapons or he can get downright dirty and steal an opponent's heart, yet, most boxing fans don't give him his due respect.

Is Ward's lack of popularity a curse for making his profession look so easy?  Sugar Ray Leonard was popular, but wasn't loved until he battled with Wilfredo Benitez, Thomas Hearns, and lost to Roberto Duran.  Maybe, Ward's stock will rise as he is tested by more elite fighters.  But, what if that fighter doesn't exist?  Will he carry the same stigma as Floyd Mayweather Jr?  Will he be hated for being so good?

Andre Ward is the real deal.  His fights should be major events. Like Ali, Oscar, Floyd, and Manny, the stars should come out to see Andre Ward.  On September 8th at Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA, Andre Ward will defend his titles against Chad Dawson.  Dawson is the best boxer and physically the largest challenge Ward has ever faced.  The showdown should bring out the best in both men.

Will the battle be enough to make Andre Ward's popularity shine?
