Highland Park and Deerfield both have unusually large percentages of people 65 and older living alone. And all signs say the numbers will increase.

I don't often get assigned to take a photo for someone else's story, but this one came out pretty nice. And it gave me an excuse to hang out at Gerry Field's Highland Park violin shop and talk to him about how Patti Smith once passed the hat while he played a Paris coffee shop.

I received a lighthearted rebuke from someone unhappy with my photograph of a developer looking to partner with the City of Highland Park, because it happened to catch city council members eating their dinner in the background during a public Committee of the Whole meeting. Ha! Regardless, still no plan to redevelop the shuttered Highland Park Theater building.

Former Minutemen bass player Mike Watt once played a song of mine on his podcast. It's all pretty much downhill from there.
