Hovershotz have been working with a company who are developing drone detection equipment. They required a drone pilot who was licenced to fly EVLOS (extended visual line of sight) as they needed to fly up to 1 KM away to see how their equipment performed and Hovershotz are the only drone professional in the North West with the necessary licences. We were required to fly all sorts of very complex maneuvers across Morecambe Bay Lancashire.

Hovershotz complete wind turbine inspection of Moorside Wind Farm Drigg, Cumbria. We have created a short video clip from the drone footage with Sellafield in the background. A surreal video of a solitary wind turbine on the West Cumbrian Energy Coast, facing off the behemoth Sellafield nuclear reprocessing plant. Located on the edge of the Lake District National Park.

Hovershotz have just shot over 100 pieces of video for our first assignment as preferred aerial drone filming operator for the National Trust in the Lake District Cumbria. This short unedited video is of Blea Tarn with the Langdale Pikes (Pavey Ark, Pike of Stickle, Loft Crag and Harrison Stickle) in the distance with the drone flying into the Langdale Valley.

Hovershotz offer Thermal Flir Infrared Drone Inspections & Surveys in Cumbria & Lancashire

Hovershotz soon to Offer aerial Drone Inspection & Thermal Photography Capabilities across Cumbria the Lake District & Lancashire
Thermal mapping and inspection workflow offer new opportunities for utilities, nuclear, insurance and other industries.
Inspection is poised to be one of the primary industries to adopt drones — and it’s no wonder. Traditional means of inspecting buildings, utilities and other infrastructure are time consuming, labour intensive, and susceptible to human error and accident. By contrast, drones can capture data for inspection purposes in minutes or hours, rather than days, while at the same time reducing the need to put humans in potentially dangerous environments.
Here at Hovershotz, we are currently evaluating the DJI Zenmuse XT thermal camera (designed by Flir). We have been vetted and approved by DJI & Flir, to offer thermal surveys in Cumbria & Lancashire (to our knowledge Hovershotz are the only drone operator approved in Cumbria & Lancashire). We are now starting training on how to use the Zenmuse XT and having one of our DJI Inspire professional drones upgraded to have FPV (so that the drone pilot can see what the drone sees, while the camera operator can see & control what the thermal imaging camera sees).
Zenmuse XT thermal camera
Thermal imaging from the air has never been as easy as it is with the DJI Zenmuse XT. By combining DJI’s unrivaled expertise in gimbal technology and image transmission with the industry leading thermal imaging technology of FLIR, the Zenmuse XT is the ultimate solution for rapid and reliable aerial thermal imaging. Capture faster, with pinpoint precision, over large areas, then save them for analysis and reporting.

DJI Inspire 2 Hovershotz new drones
By Andy Wills | Drones & UAV's | No Comments
To ensure we are one step ahead of our competitors, Hovershotz are upgrading our fleet of drones and we have placed an advanced order for a a pair of DJI Inspire 2 drones. This will enable us to have to most advanced drone camera system available so our clients get the best images and video possible.
The Inspire 2 looks essentially the same as the first-generation model, but this time it’s made from magnesium-aluminum alloy, which DJI says increases stiffness while reducing weight. It has dual sensors in front for obstacle avoidance (there’s a set on the bottom as well), but it also has infrared sensors on top of the aircraft to help keep you from crashing when flying in enclosed spaces.
Dual batteries provide up to 27 minutes of flight time as well as redundancy just in case one of the batteries fails in flight. The battery system is also self-heating, so you won’t lose performance even in temperatures down to -4 degrees Fahrenheit. And with optional high-altitude propellers, Hovershotz be able to fly it up to 16,404 feet above sea level (5 km).
Like the original, the Inspire 2 has an interchangeable camera mount so you can swap cameras for your needs. With the launch, DJI introduced the Zenmuse X4S and X5S cameras. The former features a 1-inch 20-megapixel sensor with an f2.8 24mm lens (35mm equivalent) and a mechanical shutter. The latter is an interchangeable lens camera with a 20-megapixel micro four thirds sensor.
One of the key benefits of the Inspire is the capability to have both a pilot and a camera operator work simultaneously with separate master and slave controllers. On the Inspire 1 this requires the pilot to navigate using the live video from the camera, which might not always be pointed forward. The Inspire 2 adds a second first-person-view camera giving the pilot the best view for flying, while allowing the camera operator to set the ideal shot. This is invaluable for our film & production clients and something our competitors are simply unable to offer. Another reason to choose Hovershotz.

This movie poster illustrates the quality of the images that Hovershotz drone cameras can capture. This image was actually extracted from video footage that Hovershotz shot by drone in RAW @ 2.7K resolution for the movie 'Falling for a Songbird' on location in the Lake District in June. Even when enlarged to movie poster size, the quality was awesome.
