Floyd Road construction is essentially complete, according to Cobb officials. A ribbon cutting ceremony was scheduled for the completion of the Floyd Road Widening Thoroughfare Improvements on Sept. 10.
Construction on the $5.5 million Floyd Road safety and operational improvement project began in August 2012. The project widened 1.1 miles of Floyd Road, from Clay Road to Hicks Road, to a standard four lanes divided consisting of two 11-foot wide travel lanes in each direction and a 20-foot wide grass median. A ten-foot-wide sidewalk was constructed on the west side of the roadway and a five-foot-wide sidewalk was constructed on the east side. It was funded under the 2012 SPLOST.
The two-part event also is to include a groundbreaking for a second major project, construction of the Floyd Road Safety and Operational Improvements project on Floyd Road, from Clay Road to Veterans Memorial Highway.
The new project consists of widening to accommodate four lanes with a divided median, eight foot to 12 foot multi-use trail on the west side and a five foot sidewalk on the east side. The project will also include adding dual left turn lanes from Floyd Road onto Veterans Memorial Highway.
The estimated completion date for the project is fall 2016.

More than 70 business leaders and professionals rallied at the New Braves Stadium site May 15 to support the Cobb Home of the Braves and its strategy to generate excitement and support for the May 27 Cobb Board of Commissioners meeting. More information on Facebook at Cobb Home Of The Braves.

John Loud, president of Loud Security Systems and founder of the Cobb Home of the Braves, said his group has placed six billboards around town in support of the commissioners vote next week. The billboards read: “Braves A Home Run for Cobb County.”
“You want to know the support, we’re on a mound of dirt where construction has begun, and we’ve got 80 to 100 people here,” Loud said. “This is not a small gathering of people saying we’ve got all these problems. We all think the Braves are a home run for Cobb County.”
