Story
Introduction
Penfield College of Mercer University, formerly the College of Continuing and Professional Studies, was notably renamed in 2014 for Mercer’s primary founder, Josiah Penfield, who valued honest work and education. His last philanthropic investment was for people who wanted to make a difference in their community by leading and serving others.

The College continues a long-term commitment of serving working adults seeking professional advancement into leadership roles in and beyond their communities through distinctive interdisciplinary undergraduate and graduate degree programs that merge theory and practice in unique ways.

The College currently enrolls more than 1,300 students in undergraduate, graduate, professional and workforce development certificate programs. The College’s faculty and professional support staff are committed to offering quality-learning experiences. The personal attention and support enables nontraditional learners to achieve their educational and career goals.

Penfield College offers programs through in-person, interactive classes on Mercer’s campuses and centers in Atlanta, Macon, Douglas County, Henry County, Newnan, and Eastman. Hybrid and online classes are also available.

Areas of study in the College include organizational leadership, counseling, school counseling, communication, human services, human resources, informatics, public safety leadership, psychology, pre-nursing, and liberal studies. The College also offers general education and elective courses for various colleges and schools at Mercer.
