Hosting a world's fair is like sending your city to college. Thoughts?

We've added a new page to ExpoMuseum.com about the intersection between world's fairs and Walt Disney. It's a work in progress as we still need to find out more information whether Walt Disney visited 1935 Brussels, 1935 San Diego, 1937 Paris, or 1958 Brussels. At least two or three of those seem likely.

Also, I've heard that both 1984 New Orleans' Seymour D. Fair and 1988 Brisbane's Expo Oz were designed by Disney animators. I haven't been able to confirm either of those.

Great to see the possible Toronto bid for Expo 2025 isn't as dead as I had thought. It's time to update my ExpoBids.com site.

Perhaps we could see multiple North American cities bid for Expo 2025.

Australian +Richard Schipper sent me copies of his photos from Expo 88 and graciously allowed me to share them online.

I'm hoping even major Expo '88 fans  see something new here.

I'm really excited by the prospect of a world's fair in 2023 or 2025 in the United States. This article just came out. I've commented and would encourage others to comment, as well.

Sadly, when a world's fair is suggested in the United States, people don't really understand what they are.

This week's New York Times article seems to have created a chain reaction in the UAE press. They're all hailing the article saying that the New York Times says Dubai will win Expo 2020. In reality it says it has "emerged as the front-runner." That's not the same as winning the race.

Also, the headline seems to have changed on the article. It's now "World Expositions Can Benefit or Haunt Host Cities."

There was so much news about a possible Toronto bid for Expo 2025 today, that's easiest just to link to our updated ExpoBids.com page. Let's hope the Canadian federal government reverses its decision to pull out of the BIE.

It's been interesting to see the movement against Sochi, Russia's 2014 Winter Olympics start to focus on the 2018 FIFA World Cup... and now to the Ekaterinburg, Russia's bid to host Expo 2020: a world's fair with the theme of "The Global Mind." The Expo 2020 bid is mentioned in Monday's New York Times article, but what's NOT mentioned is that there are two other cities (in addition to Ekaterinburg, Russia and Dubai, UAE) that are bidding for Expo 2020: Izmir, Turkey and Sao Paulo, Brazil.

It's been my impression from talking to insiders that Ekaterinburg and Dubai had the best chances at winning, but I wonder if many countries will start looking at the Izmir and Sao Paulo bids with renewed eyes.

The decision on who will host Expo 2020 will be made in November. Delegates from the 167 member nations of the Bureau International des Expositions (BIE) will vote in Paris.
