One of the most controversial issues in organic right now is that the USDA is allowing hydroponically-grown vegetables to be certified organic.

While hydroponics contributes real value to society, it is not organic and must have its own certification outside of the USDA’s National Organic Program.

Furthermore, hydroponics is a violation of the Organic Foods Production Act of 1990.

Organic is about the soil. Period.

To learn more and to tell the USDA that it must remove hydroponics from organic, please sign this e-petition.

This is very time-sensitive, as the deadline to submit comments is tonight at midnight. Thank you and please share with your network!

The BIG mistake organic food companies make when pitching to The New York Times

--

After 30 years at The New York Times, Stephanie Strom recently resigned from the newspaper, having garnered the reputation as the most influential food business journalist in the country.

In this week’s Organic Insider, I interviewed Stephanie Strom and we discussed a variety of subjects, including:

– What food companies should NOT do when pitching to The New York Times

– Whether she dealt with editorial pressure to cover GMOs or organic in a certain way

– How the NYT’s view of GMOs and pesticides changed over the years

– The biggest challenges that the organic industry is facing right now

– How the organic industry can improve, from a PR perspective

To read my full interview with Stephanie Strom, just sign up for a free trial of Organic Insider (no credit card required), and I will send it right over to you.

At Natural Products Expo East with Vinny Lobdell, I am leaning on the BEST air purifier you can find -- the Intellipure.

If good health is important to you, you CANNOT ignore the air quality in your home or office.

More details about the Intellipure are below.

In this week's Organic Insider, David Bronner – CEO of Dr. Bronner’s and a Vegan – Gives His Take on the Impossible Burger Controversy.

In my interview, David talks about:

– Why he was in favor of the Impossible Burger but has since changed his stance on it

– What would have to happen for him to be in support of the Impossible Burger again

– If the meat industry was behind the FDA’s rejection of the safety claims of Impossible Foods (the Impossible Burger)

– The three criteria that synbio GMO proteins, such as the one in the Impossible Burger, must meet in order for him to be okay with them

– The big picture goal that all of us need to be focusing on
