Watch as I discuss the admiration young Nigerians and young Africans have for the U.S. and how that historical affinity partly drove Heirs Holdings’ decision to invest $2.5 billion in President Obama’s Power Africa Initiative.

What do you think? Do you agree that America has a special place in the hearts of Africans? Could sustained collaboration actually drive economic growth on both sides?

I was at the Congressional CEO Dialogue during the African Leaders Summit in Washington DC, yesterday.

I spoke on the importance of the #PowerAfrica project. If Power Africa is enhanced and expanded, it can pay economic dividends to both the US and Africa, while delivering substantial development gains on the continent.

The perception of Africa has been money leaving your wallet through charity and taxes, but I made it clear that engaging with Africa in business will put money in investors’ wallet, and foster economic growth. This will only be if we invest in Africa.

As we work to advance the well-being and economic development of the African continent at the #USAfrica Summit, Heirs Holdings hosted a business leaders event yesterday.

The theme was 'Strengthening Ties', as we believe in the vast potential of a mutually beneficial relationship between Africa and the United States.

My hope for this week is that the African participants will walk away feeling like they’ve found US partners willing to take a chance on investing in the continent for the long-term, and that the US companies walk away knowing they’ve found partners in countries with hospitable business environments for their investments.

I look forward to a new dawn in Africa, as we build relationships that propel our philosophy of #Africapitalism, which ensures sustainable growth for our continent.

The #USAfricaSummit will strengthen the ties between the United States and one of the world’s most dynamic and fastest growing regions - #Africa! #AfricaSummit. #USAfrica.

I wrote a publication ahead of the coming US-Africa Leaders’ Summit in Washington, DC next week.
Read the compelling reasons why international business leaders and decision makers must take another look at Africa as a destination for investment, rather than aid.
