I bottled this madness today. The funk is pretty intense and this was only brewed 50 days ago. It turned out a lot better than I expected as this culture has been a bit sketchy in a few past batches. This is my local funk culture caught with an open air inoculation of low gravity final runnings left out during a brew day (~5 hour exposure).

The other day Anne used the term 'poopenmeyer' when she realized she forgot to do something. Since we have a kid we can't use real swears and it's the best thing ever.

Why is it impossible for smoke detector batteries to get low during waking hours? Statistically, they should get low during waking hours ~66% of the time but in reality it is 0% of the time.

Yesterday I brewed 15 gallons of saison and 5 gallons of a small beer from the same mash. 1.055 for the saison and 1.030 for the small beer (I augmented it with a pound of brown sugar). I also took the bags of the finishing hops from the saison and used them as first wort hops in the small beer. #homebrew

I fermented some jalapenos and pineapple into a delicious hot sauce.

Yesterday I brewed a strong stock ale for Christmas. It was a pretty big grain bill so I added an additional 5 gallons of hot water to run through the mash for a 'small' beer (OG 1.050). I also added some hops and a few pounds of pils to the mash and then drained into a kettle with some additional hops. I didn't boil and just let the wort slowly cool while open to the air while I finished brewing the stock ale and cleaned every thing up. I then put the kettle in the garage with a lid to let it fully finish cooling overnight. I racked it into a carboy today. Hopefully we'll see signs of fermentation in the next week or so.

This is an interesting read. Communal living makes sense from an economic standpoint, but not from an "I'm an introvert, please leave me alone." standpoint.

One thing that stood out is the part about random people just coming into your house all the time in the middle ages, I guess those RPGs where you just randomly go into people's houses and raid their treasure chests and smash their pots really wasn't all that inaccurate...
