Interesting piece about how some companies try to avoid hiring Americans.
NPR Social Tools
Employers looking to hire foreign workers must prove they looked for American workers first. But some immigration law firms show employers how to recruit Americans without actually hiring U.S. workers. This kind of "faux recruiting" is common knowledge in the tech industry.

I recall Sun was famous for this as far back as 1993. During that time I met several Russian programmers on contract living 5 to a room in Silicon Valley. They assured me their case was typical for many other komrades. Perform or get deported. Don't ask for a raise or full-time employment or lose visa.

Story
Introduction

Long time follower of all things networking, having joined IDC in 1980 to write about developments in distributed processing, then shifting over to Computerworld in 1884 to chronicle new developments in LAN and WAN technologies, and then helping launch sister publication Network World in 1986 where I've been ever since.

As Editor in Chief of Network World I'm responsible for setting the strategic direction of our website, www.networkworld.com, but also enjoy learning about new companies and new technologies.

Outside of work I'm an avid woodworker, building everything from garages and sheds to cabinets and furniture.
