You could sit out the march and plug away in your lab, but that doesn't mean the political battle raging outside your windows won't destroy the world. It can't damage science, since science is a method and not a thing. But it can destroy the social and economic foundations upon which the efforts of science are undertaken.

What's happening on Facebook is that we're setting ourselves up for the rewards of social interaction ... except when it's in a removed digital world, where we're not actually having those interactions that help us "thrive."
