When there is low water at Stokksnes, large amounts of water remain on the beach creating a mirror, making it perfect to photograph the reflection of Vesturhorn. And then it's time to say goodbye to Stokksnes and go to the next amazing destination, Jökulsárlón!

Batcave
Stokksnes | Iceland

After I was here two years ago, I once saw a picture that was taken further out on the headland so that you got some nice looking rocks in the foreground. With that picture on my retina, I leaped away and found this composition. As a bonus, I also got a clear view of the mountain with Batman's batcave! :-)

A bridge to the adventure

We were far out in the black lava dessert with our rented fourwheel wehicle when we saw this footbridge. We stopped for a moment to take some pictures and to our surprise there came several hikers and walked across the bridge, on their way to new adventures.

I had taken a lot of pictures of the dramatic black lava beach and I had taken a lot of pictures of the impressive mountain peaks when it was time to head back to the car. But before we left, I wanted to share a picture with those at home so I picked up my iPhone and took a panorama to bring everything in the frame. When I looked at the picture on the phone's display, I understood that I need to take a panorama with the big camera!

Here I have walked as close as possible to this amazing waterfall and zoomed in as far as it goes to really highlight the more than five million years old black basalt blocks and the red layers of clay that got their color from oxidizing iron within the clay. Magnificent
Fagrifoss | Iceland

Fagrifoss is a magnificent waterfall on the SouthEast side of Iceland. To get there you need a big enough 4x4 vehicle, on road F206, and cross a few rivers. We actually crossed the river you can see on the top right just a bit upstream. To find the waterfall and many other well worth places to visit we used the map "International Photographer - Iceland" that turned out to be of a tremendous help.

Stokksnes finally!

At last, we were finally here! Stokksnes! When we were here two years ago we did experience a truly magical evening and I understood that we could not expect that this time. But it was a wonderful feeling to be back! What a wonderful place! I walked around and enjoyed every second of it.

On our way to the east coast of Iceland we noticed that there were lots of swans along the way. Then when a big flock appeared against a dramatic background, I just have to shout to stop the car. Here we come Stokksnes

After exploring the northern parts of Iceland, especially around Myvatn, for a week, we were now heading towards the east coast and our first goal was Stokksnes. We had been visiting there two years ago and knew what was waiting for us. And I felt a tickling sensation in my stomach when we reached the coast and could see Stokksnes far far away!

Impressive
Hengifoss | Iceland
September 2016

Hengifoss is a beautiful as well as impressive waterfall at 128 meters (420 ft) high, making it the 3rd highest waterfall in Iceland. The red layers you see is clay that got its colors from oxidation of the iron within the clay. The black layers is basalt from volcanic eruptions five million years ago. Very impressive if you ask me!
