Our latest excursion into Fruili was a fantastic experience, from the wines to the Paleo-Christian churches with their fine mosaics, to the archaeological site of Aquileia, a little Rome with Roman ruins everywhere without the tourists or horrid "food" trucks or grimy kids sticking cardboard signs into your crotch. If you are looking for a somewhat different Italy, then maybe consider the region with the big name: Fruili Venezia Giulia.

Working on SEO for a place that would be just down the street from where I live except that now I'm in a country with a real health care plan and lots of healthy people, namely Italy. But if you're looking for idyllic creek-side living, here it is:

Small town. Village really. But very nice. You could stay a while, because there's lots of stores and services--and festivals. Taste the oranges and the fresh pasta and the bread. Have a glass of Vernaccia in the little bar in the main square. It's the Sardinian life all laid out for you properly.
