Overall a disappointment. My minimum expectation of a hotel of this calibre is that the room be clean, the bed comfortable and that the place be relatively quiet. The Marker failed on all these aspects. Upon our evening arrival there was a blower in the room drying out a damp carpet....the room was dank and musty. It took sometime to get used to the peculiar smells. The bedside table tops were smeared in hand prints and the drawers where full of food crumbs, the bed had a spongy foam cover in an attempt to get some more use out of a worn out mattress and in middle of the night the cleaning crew was banging doors in the corridor. The bathroom in the Deluxe King Bedroom was about 5'-6" x 6'-6"...inclusive of the shower/tub and so small the door had to swing outwards....I could stick my feet out the door when sitting on the toilet....and while the bathroom seemed clean...unlike the room.....the finishes were worn out. There is no in-room food service available....but the restaurant downstairs will prepare a take-out meal that you can bring up to your room. The food was good....the noise level in the restaurant was terrible. Finally, my IPAD which was left charging on the bedside table was stolen while we were out of the room..... when I called down to front desk to simply report the therft the fellow who answered was defensive and said the hotel is not responsible for items that go missing from rooms. I was not asking that the hotel do anything but take note of the incident which i doubt ever happened. I went to this hotel because I design hotel interiors and a collegue designed the interior of these rooms and was curious to see them, and while the rooms have a specific charm about the design.....this does not make up for the failure of The Marker as a safe, clean, comfortable place to stay while visiting San Francisco. The best thing about The Marker.....$58.00 a day for parking.....they got the car out of the garage fast!

If you are looking to avoid the tenderloin, you will be glad you chose this hotel (just heads towards Union square and not the other way)! Super friendly staff. Wonderful decorations and relaxing lobby. The Concierge make you feel like royalty. They even let me checkin when I arrived at 10 AM!!

Let me first off disclose that I love Kimpton hotels. The Hotel Monaco was no exception. The lobby and room decor may be over the top, but the customer service and cleanliness are top notch. I was able to check in to my room before 11am! The SF location is not ideal, but I felt safe and for the price, it was well worth it. Thanks for another great stay, Kimpton.

We celebrated our honeymoon in San Francisco in 1994. We were looking forward to our approaching 21st anniversary as our first return visit to the city-so we wanted it to be special. After viewing the photos online, we knew that THE MARKER San Francisco would be a luxury experience. It was fabulous. What made it so special was the warm welcome we received from our Guest Services Manager, Wesley Chan. When he learned the reason we were there, he generously upgraded us to a beautiful suite which would make most SF city dwellers jealous! Spacious, elegant and comfortable. As two flatlanders, we spent the next day walking, walking, walking hills and, once again, Wesley’s thoughtfulness overwhelmed us. We walked into the room and discovered a gift -a bottle of our favorite drink and bath salts to soothe our aching muscles. Wow. So, yes, not only would I recommend staying at this wonderful hotel; I must recommend the outstanding service and thoughtfulness of the staff. Wesley at THE MARKER over-delivered on all expectations… we had for a wonderful time and great memories from San Francisco! Thank you so much!!!

My Mother and I came to San Francisco for a week of sightseeing. At the last minute we changed to the Hotel Monaco, a Kimpton Hotel. I am so glad. We were greeted with a smile everyday by Danny, coming and going. Danny, Eddie and Jackson were always helpful to send us on our way with all questions answered and directions to keep us straight. Their restaurant was in renovation, so everyday there was a continental breakfast for us. The room was always clean and the gym was great, even for my 87 year old mother!. Location was good for all our jaunts. They accommodated us, adding my daughter on for the weekend. We are very happy with our treatment. Danny was very special. We will come back in the future

I loved the decor of this hotel. I was wowed from the moment I walked in. The decore reminded me of being in a story book. It was a treat. To top it off, I found the service to be excellent. From the front desk all the way around. I will make it a point to seek out the Kimpton name from now on. Examples of service - some how the little bottle of shampoo was missing. I called down to the front desk and they sent up full replacements of all the bottles. I had trouble printing off a document in the business center. They removed all business center charges and printed my document at the front desk. I found both ladies I dealt with to be friendly and very helpful. They have a complementary continental breakfast (because the restaurant next door is under renovations.) and a complementary wine evening.
