About Sreemangal:

Sreemangal is a hilly area covered with tea estates. There are 47 tea gardens in Sreemangal. A large portion of world’s highest quality of tea is grown here. It is also called the ‘city of two leaves and a bud’ or ‘the tea capital’. Sreemangal is famous for nature, forests, lakes, wetlands and wildlife.

Location: This little beautiful town is located about 200km northeast of Dhaka.
 

Tourist attractions: Major attractions are ever green Tea gardens, Lawachara N/P which is called the tropical rail forest, The lake of lotus, Baikkabeel(wetland of migratory and rasident birds), Hail haor(huge wetland and beautiful landscape), Humhum forest and waterfall(adventure jungle hike), Madhabkunda waterfall, Shatchari N/P, Remakalenga, Khashia/Tripura/monipuri ethnic community, Lemon/Pineapple/Rubber plantations, Nirmmai Shiva Temple (archaeological site) and also the world famous the secret special 7 layer tea cabin.
 

Sreemangal to Dhaka/Dhaka to Sreemangal Buses:  Shymoli/Hanif(Saidabad bus terminal), Ena(Mohakhali bus terminal). All are non ac buses, depart every hour or 2 from 6.30am, until 12am.
 

Dhaka to Sreemangal Train info:
Parabath Express(Dep.Time: 6.40am), Tuesday is off.

Jaintika Express(Dep.Time:12,00pm), Thursday is off.

Kalli Express(Dep.Time: 4.00pm), Friday is off.

Sreemangal town: Sreemanagl(town) consists of 9 wards and 20 mahallas. It has a population of 21,596; male 53.33%, female 46.67%. Literacy rate among the town people is 61.6%
 

Administration: Sreemangal thana, now an upazila, was extablished in 1912. The upazila consists of one municipality, 9 union parishads, 124 mouzas and 206 villages.
 

Archaeological heritage: Nirmmai Shib Bari(1454 AD), Tamrashasan of Raja Marundanath ( 11th century, discovered in village kalapur) and statue of Ananta Naraiyan(discovered during excavation in village Lamua); both the Tamrashasan and the atatue of  Ananta Narayan are now preserved in the Calcutta Museum.
 

Historical events: Once Sreemangal was a part of the Tripura State. The great earthquake of 1897 caused a massive change in the physiograply of the area.
 

Marks of War of Liberation Mass killing site: BDR Camp and the WAPDA office premisses; mass grave: 2 (North Varaura and South VAraura); memorial 1 (North Varaura)

Hats, bazars and fairs: Hats and bazars are 23, mela(fair) 3, most noted of which are Mirzapur, Satgaon, Sindurkhan, Vairab bazar, Sreemangal, Nirmmai Shiva Bari Shiva Chaturdashi Mela, Kal bhairabi Mela ant village Gandarvapur, Charak Mela at Vimsi.
 

Main Exports: Tea, pineapple, lemon, betel leaf.
