Okay, advice sorely needed! Google Reader is such an integral part of my information discovery/management toolkit that this announcement is seriously bad news for me, it changes my life. Pathetic, huh?

Who here has found a way to consume RSS besides Reader that allows you to quickly scan and tag the items for later perusal the way Google Reader does?  All of the fancy new feed readers I try are all about looking like magazines and not about consuming information in an orderly fashion.  Is there a great one out there I've missed, preferably web based/cross platform? I'm on a Mac at home, Windows at work and Android on my devices.

I hear you and it may not be for you. You can use Fever as you would other readers with folders of feeds, etc--but probably no sense in paying for the app if you're not interested in the link discovery stuff...

If, like me, you value all Idealware (http://www.idealware.org) does for the nonprofit community, consider making a donation. Your support helps nonprofits make smart use of software and social media. http://www.razoo.com/story/Goidealware

Boy, Hagar the Horrible has some explaining to do. What a powerful example of how cultural biases have tainted our historical perspective. The marauding vikings didn't all have big beards -- half of them were women, and we have no cultural reference for that - every movie, book, comic and cartoon has assumed that all vikings are male.

I heard about this. Historical imagery can be a powerful thing.

Most of you know that I'm between gigs. My long-term prospects are pretty good, but I'm also looking for short-term projects while I interview.  If you know a nonprofit that could benefit from some IT assessment, consulting, assistance or damage control, I can help. Here are the details:

Thanks, Michael!  They don't appear to be focused on my target - I'm more interested in working with NPOs than startups.  But I do appreciate it.

Hallelujah -- today is the first day that G+ hasn't suggested that I follow Zuck, and even has one of my nptech peers showing up alongside the Brogan and Scoble recommendations.

Well, also adopt the bit that FB does well -- if you show me Zuck for a day or two and I don't add him, show me someone else. I don't object to the cool kid recommendations -- I object to the lack of alternatives.

I'm pretty disheartened by the new trend to merge computer and mobile operating systems, along with the tight content control inherent in app stores (and Apple's abusive use of the channel). I put it all down here, on the Techcafeteria blog.

I agree totally. We're seeing a similar convergence in the web development world where devs are trying to make one site morph for every device and in the process we're losing a lot of the creativity that you can integrate into a full width design.

Introduction
Took a strange route through cooking jobs, playing in a band, and legal technology management to my true career as a nonprofit technologist.  My skill is in deploying mission-focused technology on low budgets to great effectiveness.  I blog a lot about the same.  I also have a wonderful family and friends all over the world.
