Federal prosecutors finally going after the subprime auto lending business. The link between the big banks creating a market for auto debt and the increasing number of low income auto consumers being sent into bankruptcy is at long last newsworthy.

Nice overview of Consumer Financial Protection Bureau's lawsuit against Hanna & Associates, a debt collector and at least nominally a law firm. The debt collector apparently operates with a staff of 16 lawyers who merely put their signature on lawsuits. Apparently a single lawyer at the company signed off on about 138,000 lawsuits, an average of about 1,300 a week. Such a feat would seem to test the limits of physical endurance. The firm's lawyers were expected to spend "less than a minute" looking at each lawsuit before signing it. Damn!
