What is ACTA? Learn more about it

What is ACTA? ACTA is the Anti-Counterfeiting Trade Agreement. A new intellectual property enforcement treaty being negotiated by the United States, the European Community, Switzerland, and Japan, with Australia, the Republic of Korea, New Zealand, Mexico, Jordan, Morocco, Singapore, the United Arab Emirates, and Canada recently announcing that they will join in as well.

Why should you care about ACTA? Initial reports indicate that the treaty will have a very broad scope and will involve new tools targeting “Internet distribution and information technology.”

What is the goal of ACTA? Reportedly the goal is to create new legal standards of intellectual property enforcement, as well as increased international cooperation, an example of which would be an increase in information sharing between signatory countries’ law enforcement agencies.

Kim - MASSIVE KUDOS to you for bringing this up. We need to be very AGGRESSIVE in bringing this up on blogs and all over the Internet. We need to show the cretins that are trying so hard to curtail our rights that we do care about our rights and we are not going to put up with this - not one little bit. Thank you so much!!!!!!!!
Thanks +JD Ebberly I appreciate that. I dislike that we have to keep talking politics when I'd much rather talk social tech... but if we don't talk about it, we aren't going to have businesses to talk about, ya know? I've still got to put in some more hours reading this bill and the associated documents. I've read part of them but I need more time before I can do much besides just pass on links. Lately it just feels like our governments... at some global level.. are on a train wreck waiting to happen. We can't just sit back and do nothing.
I just edited this to get the youtube video links working.
Yeah again, and this doesn't mention that there's already a bill similar to SOPA sitting in congress. It's untouched at the moment but its sitting there.
