have been a bit quiet on MOOC front. Even lurking proved temporarily too time consuming. Am back now.

is coming together. I just added mooc as a keyword on my google+ profile. tapping in #mooc as a search term yielded only two profiles. maybe it takes time for the spiders - or whatever thingies goolge uses to search

Hi guys,

Need a bit of advice here - as the author of the soon to be published
Parents Survival Guide to Music Lessons should I call myself
Elisabeth Winkler Lawrence - which is a bit of a mouthful and weirdly spelled or should I go for
Elizabeth Lawrence? or Liz Lawrence?

I am thinking searchability and SEO optimization here. Also how important is a unique name - googled my self and there is only one E Winkler Lawrence
Thanks for your input

An interesting discussion with an MU (Musician's Union) rep on the emotive subject of touching students during instrumental lessons - the MU, ABRSM (music exam board) give blanket advice for a complete no-touching policy which I find ridiculous, and which is obviously in place to protect their members.
IMO making touching per se somewhat suspect, it will only increase the risk of false allegations leveled at teachers.
There was a bit of a hoohaa at the beginning of the year when the UK secretary of education wrote an open letter criticising the policy, but it's rather disappeared from the media spotlight.
As I have just been commissioned to write a parent's guide to music lessons this is quite concerning - particularly as I was going to advise to discuss touching with the child's teacher and to give permission for the teacher to touch the child, for adjusting posture, demonstrating technique etc.
I am not sure if I want to stick my head into this particular hornets nest, but would be very interested in views.

Gumption. A very nice lady knocked on the door flogging her self-published 'mills and boon' type novelette for 4 quid. Apparently she sold 12000 copies. I bought the book, but won't be reading it. I wonder how much mileage (pun intended) is in this rather low-tech approach - am considering it for my own offering....
