Do you feel like you are defined by your art? Lately, I wish that I didn't feel that way.  I sometimes wish that I made music purely for enjoyment and not as a way to identify myself.

I've been focusing on process rather than product lately, and that's been good. But I set my goals too high and I've been burning out, physically burning out. Focusing on my art while working my full time teaching job, taking care of my son and trying to be a good husband is difficult.

I wish that I can be comfortable identifying myself as a teacher. I'm a good teacher. But I can't "just" be a teacher. Wish I could.

Any advice from people successfully navigating these waters is appreciated.

Nerds Arguing About Spaceships (Acoustic)
Works in Progress by John Anealio This has been the opening song for my live set for more than two years, yet I'm only now getting around to recording it. This acoustic version is pretty much how it sounds live. I'm currently working on adding drums, bass a...

The Crescent Sonata (Piano Version, W.I.P)
Works in Progress by John Anealio I'm going to start sharing works in progress here.  Here's a piece that I finished composing called "The Crescent Sonata."  This is a bare bones piano version.  The final version will be solo acoustic guitar with some added...

Cool.  I didn't realize that so many folks are using the Google play all access.  I shall have to investigate it.

The Crescent Sonata (Solo Guitar)
Works in Progress by John Anealio I was really hoping that the solo acoustic guitar version of this piece would work, but I don't think it does.  Sounds a little empty to me.  What do you think? My initial thought was to have the solo guitar be the base and...

1 minute of a 17 minute prog rock song
Works in Progress by John Anealio I've had an abiding love for progressive rock since my teen years. But for some reason, my own music has never reflected this. So here's my shot at composing a progressive rock piece. I ambitiously gave it the working title...

Let's Share
The Quitter's Waltz by John Anealio My new year's resolution was to spend less time talking about creating and more time, you know, creating .  I've been good on my promise, and I've been quite productive with my songwriting and composing.  I have a process...
