I've been having a very hard time deciding between the Laphroaig Quarter Cask and the 10 year old Cask Strength for my next bottle.  I'm not yet willing to go buy both of them at the same time...

Any comments?

I've had a bottle of the Quarter Cask before and really enjoyed it.  I've also had the "regular" 10 year, and liked it, but not nearly as much as the quarter cask.  So, does the cask strength really kick the 10 year old up to a higher level?

It's a wonderful problem to have.

And, I got the Triple Wood.  It's crazy delicious.

My latest additions.

I've never tried the Bunnahabhain or the Old Pulteney before, but I was looking for something on the salty and sweet side. The Ardbeg and Ellenstown are peat bombs, and the Shieldaig is probably an independent bottling of a young Talisker.

I cracked open the Bunnahabhain last night, and agree that it's fantastic.  It has a lot of salted caramel flavor.

I'm starting to wonder what the Old Pulteney is going to be like -- everybody says something about how incredibly salty it is!

This guy is kind of in the Michael Hedges vein; disturbingly talented.

My local one has a bottle of Cognac for a few thousand, but nothing this crazy.

When I was in Paris, I stopped in at La Maison du Whisky (which has an amazing selection), and they showed me a bottle of Dalmore 58 yr., which was 17,000 Euro.
A rare aged scotch. There's only one bottle of it available for sale in the valley, and it's only one of 72 bottles for sale in the entire United States.

My newest acquisition, BenRiach Curiositas (10 yr, 46%).

It's a peated Speyside, which is unexpected.  Apparently a lot of the bottles out there are now 40%, and not as good.

The nose is quite peaty, with rubber, iodine, smoke and some mead and salt in the background.  It's slightly thick and oily, but not too crazy.  The taste is initially barley sweetness nicely morphing into peat, and the finish is long smoke and peat with a touch of butterscotch.

Yum!

This was really helpful. Thanks, everyone!

Essentially I decided that while the CS is probably very good, it won't offer much beyond the 10YO.  I got the Triple Wood as a variant on the quarter cask, and am not disappointed.  The number of different aromas and flavors are outstanding.

They don't call us the Florida of the west for nothing.

Oh, wait... is that a thing?  Maybe I just made that up.
