When people think about meditation, they often have an image of someone sitting crossed-legged on a cushion on the floor, eyes closed, waiting for inner peace to wash over them. After meditating for a few years I've come to realize that meditation isn't about what happens when your eyes are closed, it's about how you live your life. All of your life; both the messy parts that feel uncomfortable and painful as well as the joyous parts.

Many of us have a hard time differentiating between what our ego thinks we need in order to be happy and what our soul needs. Aligning our lives with our souls rather than that part of us that compares, judges and misleads us into believing that the more we have the happier we'll become is the first step towards inner peace and fulfillment. Just as physical hunger is very real, soul hunger is equally as real. The challenge is that many people have soul hunger, but they don't know what it is that they are experiencing. How can you alleviate soul hunger if you don't know that you have it? I work with countless women and many are experiencing either intermittent or constant soul hunger. It's time to raise awareness that soul hunger is real and meant to be listened to.

I often hear women ask "Why can't I just let that go?" We may have something that is bothering us and, the sense of being stuck is preventing us from feeling more peaceful. And then we see all the sayings on Facebook, especially during the fall as the leaves effortlessly fall from the trees, that remind us we need to learn to "let go." The problem is we won't let go by telling ourselves we need to let something go. So how do we learn to let go when we're ready to move forward?
