that's all the commercialism. They've advertised / preached / brainwashed us into believing that the more we spend on each other, the better. The better the gift. The better a person we are.
Have you noticed the department stores push the junk and have big sales just before the nicer merchandise (for the holiday gifting) is brought out. Yeah, "you don't want to gift that old style sale sticker sweater". No, "you want to give this fabulous over priced new style". And each year the gift is to be bigger and better than the year before.
You shouldn't feel like you are giving someone a piece of worthless junk if you are gifting together the 12 gifts from the list. The list is meant to be fun and sentimental.....and fun....did I mention fun. It is more a challenge to go out and really find the items on the list for your partner, than it is to run into the i-store and pick up the latest gadget. And there is more love and true meaning behind the list of 12, than there is in new oven mitts, bath salts, etc.
And price doesn't always promise a better gift...a gift the recipient will love. Think back....how often have you received something and thought, "Oh my, you spent that much on THIS? You should have saved your money, because I hate this. What were you thinking? I would much rather have a pair of oven mitts."
How about all those returns....lot's of love there. How about the folks who will buy a bunch of junk, knowing very well that the junk is junk and that their recipients won't like it....but they just do it anyway because they don't want to be empty handed.
The 12 gifts were created to inspire those who can't afford Christmas but want to take part in the gifting. They are an alternative to the high priced ticket items that we are told we must buy.
Further more, I find it odd that you, married to sentimental romantic Paul, would feel discouraged and fear to give such gifts.
And further, further more, I will, as I always have, love whatever you send.....because it is from you and because you took the time to think of me. Maybe we sisters should start a tradition of alternative gifting.

It is shameful that Professor Avery is ignorant to the fact that, if it weren't for the brave men and women through out the history of the U.S. fighting for and maintaining such freedom, rights and liberties, he might not have the job he has, the home he resides in, the car he drives, his i-pad, i-phone, access to the internet and his right and freedom to voice such hate as he does. Such a sad little man is Professor Avery

Yeah....I have little time to use google+, FB and my blog. And what's more, I forget about google+ and to post blog postings here. I need to add it to my blog so it auto posts the way fb and twitter does. I pop in when someone posts a comment. I bounce in and out of fb as I go through my day.....more or less a habit and those silly games.
