Check out our December meetup! We’re talking about GraphQL next week - a query language for APIs and a runtime for fulfilling those queries.

Our annual GDG DevFest is here again!

It's time to give our GDG raffle app a refresh and make it a Progressive Web App. Join in on the fun of live coding with us, even if you have zero experience with web technologies, as we'll have all of our progress on the big screen the whole day.

Hey, fellow GDG'ers! We're sure you've noticed the new Google+ design by now and most likely are already using it. With the new design came new changes as well! For better or worse, one of them is the "Events" section being deprecated.

In light of this change, we decided it is time to fully migrate our event planning to meetup.com. We've been supporting both platforms until now, but starting with November, we won't be scheduling events through Google+ anymore. If you'd like to keep attending our events, please join us at http://www.meetup.com/gdgsacramento

Fear not, however, we are not going away from G+ platform! We will keep posting important updates here, as well as on meetup. Look out for the official announcement of our annual DevFest very soon!

We have two talks on very new and fresh products this month!

Some of you might remember Chris Sprague's presentation on micro-controllers a couple of months ago. Back then he mentioned a new device he was working on, but we didn't get too much info. Well, we are excited to have Chris back to present his invention! Straight from the author himself:

tCubed: a new IoT device and marketplace

tCubed is a Bluetooth entertainment hub for playing games, listening to music, and extending the functionality of your mobile device into the real world. Unlike current platforms, tCubed-enabled apps encourage users to interact face-to-face with friends and family. Best of all, developers can use any operating system to control tCubed using over Bluetooth using our API.

Cloud Vision API

Earlier this year Google announced their Cloud Vision API - the technology that powers their image search, Google Photos, and various other products. It is now open to developers to utilize in their own projects. Do you want to build your personal photo album website and have it recognize your friends? Or maybe detect and even translate text on images? How about detecting popular natural and man-made structures within an image? All that and more is possible with the new API!

And of course we'll have a raffle while enjoying food and drinks by TekSystems.

See you soon!

PS: We are trying to improve the registration process and make Bob's life of letting people into the building easier. Please note that when you RSVP on meetup.com, it will ask you for your full name if different from Meetup credentials. This information will be used strictly to register you with security at VSP and have your name badge printed. If it's of any inconvenience to you, please feel free to contact GDG Sacramento organizers directly and we'll work with you personally to resolve it. Cheers!

Google I/O 2016 had 3 days full of product announcements, educational sessions, workshops, and fun events. We'll cover it all at our June meetup! There will be a raffle and, as always, pizza will be served courtesy of TekSystems.

Now that custom domain hosting is included in the free tier of Firebase, we finally have a proper url for our raffle that doesn't forward anywhere! :)
