Goodbye Jay -- this one made me cry! Beware! #dogs
Most people will tell you their dog is the best dog. They're probably right, I know I was. He was put to sleep back in July of this year (2 weeks before his birthday). This was hard to make, I am emotional. He was wonderful and I still miss him. It took a while before I stopped expecting to see him when I walked down the stairs, or hear his tail thumping when he heard me coming (on the subject of tails, have you heard of a condition calle...

I saw your blog about Tony the Snake years ago.  I just re - read it because I still haven't accepted he's gone.  What you wrote is beautiful.  He was close to me and every day I think of him.  He was a great man.  We shared so many laughs and stories.  I'd like to hear more about his later years.

The last time a full moon appeared on Christmas Day, Luke Skywalker was flying across the screen in the original "Star Wars." So not much has changed.

Hers was a story ripe for the kind of memoir that inspires movies: a young American woman moving to a far-flung, picturesque corner of the globe — and loving it.

Just got back from this wonderful spot ... not enough parking, but otherwise, just BEAUTIFUL! The trip to Fork Shoals (via Conestee Lake Rd) is as much fun as the hiking, the area is *so* lovely. The falls are roaring, the Reedy River is wide and the trails are well-marked, but still pretty rustic. Somebody was filming a movie or commercial or something while we were there; the falls are so picturesque, its easy to see why they chose this locale for filming. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED if you enjoy rural hiking.

Last week, we crossed on one of the footbridges through a veritable CLOUD of huge, beautiful rainbow-dragonflies, all buzzing next to orange "trumpet flower" vines and enormous, tree-sized ferns. A magical place, like a tropical paradise from another time.

The kind of open-air market I grew up with in the midwest; we had to drive to "the country" for such an experience and homegrown good foods. The suburbs have grown up around this amazing market, but the product is the same: local, fresh, often organic and picked that very day. GREAT PLACE and wonderful fresh vegetables, fruits, ciders, breads, as well as terrific old-fashioned candies and salad dressings...
