We use the word "mindful" all the time these days...but how mindful are we in our day-to-day decision-making?

For me, this week is about being mindful with the choices made around supporting children's social-emotional health and well-being. For example, I'm thinking about the intended and unintended consequences of using publicly displayed behavioral monitoring charts and cards.

Perhaps our intention in using them is to provide feedback, help children self-regulate, and teach social-emotional skills...but are we mindful about the unintended consequences when we publicly announce that a child is struggling to regulate, to attend, or to be fully engaged?

Have we recognized the unintended outcomes that have emerged despite our good intentions? Are we aware that children are being publicly shamed or bullied by peers? Are we aware of the shift in our focus from teaching to punishing?
