Regent Road Fire - ID Asbestos assist with a devastating blaze that destroyed a bowling alley and indoor market in Great Yarmouth. We helped provide expert advice to the local authority on appropriate safety measures, as well as clearing of asbestos debris to allow for the reopening the main pedestrian road that links the town centre to the seafront.

Removing Asbestos Insulation Board requires an enclosure to be erected using polythene to form an airtight work area and for the enclosure to be placed under negative pressure using filtered air extraction units, as seen in this picture with ducting attached. The integrity of the enclosure is tested by means of a smoke test. Artificial smoke is pumped into the enclosure and visual inspections are carried out. If no smoke leaks from the enclosure, then no asbestos fibres can be released in to the surrounding area and the removal process can be carried out safely.

The white polythene cube structures are air locks and are fitted to the enclosure providing several functions:

1. Allows airflow into the enclosure allowing the negative pressure units to work affectivly

2. Allows operatives to gain access to the work area

3. Allows the asbestos materials to be removed from the work area once wrapped up and sealed

4. Provides protection from asbestos fibres escaping from the work area.

By carrying out a simple job, such as just fixing a picture to a wall, can release a very high quantity of dangerous asbestos fibres in to the air, without the occupier ever being aware that the occurrence has happened.

When carrying out refurbishment work within your property, be safe and don't expose yourself to this deadly material. Find out how you can protect you and your family here http://www.idasbestos.com/asbestos-surveys
