I took a few moments today to outline the ideals I hold related to the learning community. Many of these ideals are present in the community where I teach and learn. The next phase it to relook at the ways that I can contribute to these ideals in effective ways. What would you add?

Sometimes our students don't succeed simply because the objectives, directions, and expectations are not explicit enough. As my summer reflection continues with regard to MA's 33 elements for educator excellence, today's focus is Clear and Explicit.

Join me on this series of reflections related to teaching well. Your thoughts and ideas are welcome. 18 explicit expectations | teachfocussummerstudy

Challenging to synthesize Willingham's research. With that in mind, I recommend you read the book. Perhaps this post will whet your appetite.

Make some time to reflect upon your teaching/learning efforts this summer. This time upfront will serve your school year work well.

It is easy to tell students to respect one another, but it is much more challenging and much more effective to spend time during the first week of the school year making learning visible by working with students and colleagues to define respect and show what respect looks like in a teaching/learning environment. It may surprise both educators and students to realize that our images of respect differ and coming to common ground early in the year will set the stage for respect

What practices do you employ to make sure your expectations, directions, and objectives are clear and explicit. Summer Reflections: Teachfocus continues. I welcome your thoughts and ideas.
