The flavors taste good and quality. Ice cream: - Earl Grey - very good, light sweet and a bit of flowery citrus - Strawberry - a bit sweeter, but still good - Espresso - light espresso flavor; it was more watery, and less milky than I hoped - Hazelnut; and Mint chocolate chip: Both of which had little bits of nuts or chips to crunch on. - Chocolate - very good. Dark, sweet Went: 3 times

Pros: - super creamy texture - Earl Grey Tea ice cream had the perfect amount of tea flavor - large, generous scoops - open early! (unlike Mikey's and Big Gay ice cream) - also a cafe - a TON of vegan options Cons: - none? Bottom line: I will definitely return-- the ice cream was probably one of the creamiest consistencies that I've ever had. I highly recommend the Earl Grey and can't wait to try more.

I had earl grey ice and chocolate cream. The tea-flavored ice cream was good, and while the chocolate tasted fine, it had many pieces of ice inside. Such a let down.

The ice cream is so wonderful. It's sweet, but not overpowering. I would definitely return for another visit!

A quaint little shop in the heart of East Village, Van Leeuwen is a perfect blend of coffee shop and ice cream parlor. What started out (and still continues) as an ice cream truck has expanded into several brick and mortar shops across Brooklyn and Manhattan, and the EV is proudly home to one of them. There's a surprising amount of space given its location, which allows for plenty of tables and seats, while their WiFi encourages people to linger with their computers and tablets throughout the day. They serve up a quality cup of coffee, using Toby's Estate coffee beans, but if you're not in the mood for caffeine, they have a unique array of ice cream flavors available. I opted for the small cup, after deciding on a scoop of the Earl Grey and Currants & Cream flavors. Without a doubt, this is some of the best quality ice cream you'll find in NYC. The texture is perfect - not too dense nor too airy, creamy, and well-blended. The Earl Grey is surprisingly subtle, especially when paired with a touch of strawberry, and not too sweet; the flavor reminded me of the mornings in college when I'd make a cup (or two) for myself while poring over notes before an exam. The Currants & Cream was a good contrast, as the currants interspersed throughout gave some texture and tartness to each spoonful, and the hint of vanilla was an appreciated addition. I'm sure that if I lived any closer to this place, I'd be a pretty frequent customer. Nonetheless, it's a nice place to stop by after a meal or when you need to wile away some time with a laptop or good book. The good coffee and ice cream is just another plus, of course.

Ice cream here is a pure goodness! Bare in mind, it's an ice cream, not gelato. It is however right in gelato alley quality wise. Besides standard ice cream flavors like chocolate or caramel, they experiment with flavors like ginger. There is a nice selection of not your usual ice cream toppings including cocoa nibs and candied ginger. They pride themselves with everything being organic. The taste confirms that since everything tastes natural. For almost every flavor there is a vegan option as well.

This place is like manna from heaven! The most delicious ice cream you've ever tasted and get this... all natural ingredients so you don't feel bad about eating it!! I saw it on a city guide show on cable and had to give it a shot, best decision ever! A little pricier than your typical cone, but worth it. And now they sell pints of it in select supermarkets in Manhattan and Brooklyn!! Go get some!!

Best ice cream in the East Village. Sea salt caramel is amazing. They also have new flavours each week. Plus, you don't have to wait in line for hours like Big Gay.
