How do you turn poo into profit? The Dutch are doing just that with a nappy recycling plant. With nappies accounting for so much landfill this is a welcome initiative. There is a growing trend towards returning to cloth nappies but it's a small niche and unlikely to take off. People are busy, they want convenience and disposable over reusable tends to win out, particularly in the case of nappies. But we can't continue like this or we will be buried beneath our own rubbish. http://ow.ly/xsEo30mrnE3

Now that Halloween is over and the lead up to Christmas madness begins, we need to consider our impact on the environment even more than usual. Think about every household how much packaging goes into presents like toys not to mention the decorations. Multiply that by participating households around the world. Everybody seems to love Christmas - the time of gift giving - regardless of their religious background. Now think about all the unwanted gifts, the plastic stocking fillers that get broken, lost or thrown away as soon as they're opened - what are some of the alternatives to save the planet? http://ow.ly/WxKS30mrnmK

Whaling - Japan argues they have a right to hunt everything in the ocean and believes that some whales’ populations are healthy enough to permit a return to whaling - the rest of the world argues against it. Earlier this year Japan revealed that the 333 mink whales killed during its latest winter cull included 122 pregnant females. Fighting the ban is proving costly for Japan but the fight doesn't seem to be abating. http://ow.ly/ctAg30mrnkd

Consumers and employees are demanding more, consumers want to know where their food came from, who made it, what's in it, was it sourced ethically. Employees are bringing what they stand for to the workplace, they want to work for companies who are transparent - this is the way it should be. Corporate social responsibility is a win for everyone. http://ow.ly/j6FS30mrnbo

Europe: Study advises that the livestock industry needs to achieve a 74% drop in greenhouse gas emissions by 2050. The study calls for the European commission to urgently set up a formal inquiry mandated to propose measures – including taxes and subsidies – that “discourage livestock products harmful to health, climate or the environment”. Will consumers pay more for high quality meat produced in environmentally safe conditions, where countryside protection and animal welfare have been guaranteed? http://ow.ly/XP3W30mrn8T

Integrate climate change measures into national policies, strategies and planning - a target of the SDG number 13 climate change goal - doesn't tie in with the Adani Carmichael coal mine very well does it?
