The first Soldier for Life, General George Washington, eloquently dictates that “The willingness with which our young people are likely to serve in any war, no matter how justified, shall be directly proportional to how they perceive the Veterans of earlier wars were treated and appreciated by their nation.”
Our Soldiers come from our communities and upon completion of their noble Service in the defense of this great Nation – they will return. When they return, they bring skills, experience, and values that can further contribute to their communities. These Soldiers live under the Army Warrior Ethos forged by blood, sweat, and tears of former Soldiers which not only makes the Army successful on the battlefield, but more importantly can make their communities better. The Warrior Ethos: I will always place the mission first, I will never accept defeat, I will never quit, and I will never leave a fallen comrade will resonate in our Soldiers forever. They are Soldiers for Life.
The Chief of Staff of the Army, General Odierno created the Soldier for Life effort to ensure our heroes continue as Soldiers after their Army service as leaders and civic assets, advocates of our Army, and a battle-buddy for future transitioning Soldier.
